Reviewers are not acting as your financial advisor, accountant or attorney. When a topic needs a licensed professional, we say so.
Our review process
- Draft. A calculator or guide is written with its formula, assumptions and sources.
- Needs review. The formula is checked against known-answer tests, and figures are checked against primary sources such as the IRS, the Social Security Administration, HHS and the Federal Student Aid office.
- Reviewed. A reviewer approves the page. It then shows "Reviewed by" and the last-reviewed date.
Keeping numbers current
All tax and benefit limits live in one place in our code and are updated each year when the IRS and other agencies publish new figures. Calculators currently use 2026 figures, last checked on 2026-10-30. Each calculator lists the assumptions it uses right under its results.
Independence
We don't accept payment to feature products, and we don't earn referral fees. Advertising is shown in clearly labeled spaces and never inside calculator inputs. Advertisers have no say over content.
AI summaries
Some calculators offer an optional "Explain my results" summary written by an AI model. It only receives the anonymous numbers from the calculator, is labeled as AI-generated, and is educational only.
Corrections
If you spot an error, please tell us. We fix confirmed errors quickly and update the last-reviewed date.
